Why does my tub spout keep running when the shower is on?
The diverter isn’t sealing. On most tubs it’s a pull-up gate inside the spout, and the usual fix is a new spout. Three-handle setups have a separate diverter stem in the middle that can be replaced.
Why does the shower go hot or cold when someone flushes?
Many single-handle shower valves use a pressure-balancing cartridge to prevent that. When the cartridge wears or clogs, temperature swings return, and replacing the cartridge usually fixes it.
Can I just change the handle and trim?
Often, yes, but trim kits are made for specific valve brands. The new trim must match the valve behind the wall unless the valve is replaced too.
